Connection to The Great Debaters

          I believe there is a good  connect between the two because for one when Henry left  the debate team because of how the team had to change there whole topic it started to stress him out and even more because the rest of the team was depending on him. An other example for one who may runaway would be when junior followed Denzel to the barn meeting with the blacks and whites it was not really not running away but he did not tell anyone where he was going.

Tips That May Help Your Child To Not Runaway

Spend time with your teen and listen-this is the best way to prevent them from feeling alone and insecure.

• Take your teen seriously- do not dismiss their worries and fears.
• Be firm on central issues while bending on less critical issues.
• Permit expression of ideas, even if they are different from your own.
• Teens have mood swings- don’t take them too personally.
• Talk with teachers and other parents if you are worried. They may have helpful insights and observations.
• If you tell your teen that he or she can talk to about anything, mean it. Help from outside sources and counseling professionals can help you become more comfortable talking to your teen about sensitive subjects

Possible Solutiosn to Runaways

• Services that can help prevent a runaway episode by discussing concerns or warning signs you have identified and by directing you to the appropriate services.
• A "time-out" or cooling off period to reduce tensions when family conflicts reach a boiling point.
• Local and national resources that can help you contact those that could be of most assistance if your teen leaves home.
• Family counseling directly or through referrals to other professionals when the youth returns home.

                               Things Parents can Do to Help



• Remember what it was like to be a teenager and acknowledge that you and your teen are in this together.
• When your teen needs to talk, give your full attention. Turn off or put away any distractions.
• Listen to what they have to say, repeating or restating what they say so that they know that you heard them.
• Speak in a calm voice and try not to interrupt.
• Avoid yelling, sarcasm, threats and whining.
• Do not think that your answer is the only answer.
• If things get heated, take a break and return to the discussion when you both have calmed down.
• Do not try to get "the last word".

Possible Reasons of Run Aways

• For one abuse.
• Parents separating or divorcing or also the arrival of a new stepparent.
• Death in the family.
• Arrival of a new born baby.
• Family financial  problems.
• Kids or the parens drinking or doing drugs.
• Problems at school.
• Peer pressure.

My Memoir

  The year of 2009 was the first of all differences in my life to be changed. Death plays a good roll so to say when ones time is up in life but, we question of why he or she has to be taken? My mother was taken away from me, family,friends and the ones who wouldn't be able to know her right now at this moment in time on March, 10, 2009.You don't expect for anyone to take that easy a death in the family the youngest in the family now me being the one and only child to the last child. I never take it easy till this day its hard to know i can't go to my mom and say all my problems in life. You grown up really fast when you have no one to depend on.
    To basically run down how she died she was diagnosed with cancer in the year of 2004. After day after day of treatment feeling like hell and wanting to give up at times{my mother never told me she had cancer has a child parents tend to sugar coat every thing so she told me that she was very sick.}After some years of more treatment my mother decided that she needed a vacation. So yeah the Christmas of 2008 we left to go to Trinidad we came back in the new year of 2009. When we came back she was sicker than ever it made it official that life was never going to be the same. My mothers last words to me was" I love you and I want to come home on good Friday."Well she came home, she went to be in peace. I know she fought to stay alive to be around more for me but, her time was here no one can ever stop that.That's my moment of change in my life.

Childhood remebrances are always creative if your mixed; Chinese, Trinidadian,Dominician and also African American. You always remeber family you always think about who you haven't met in your family. You may believe taht your family just consist of your mom, dad, sister or brother or both.You want to know your family, you wan to know that you have a big family that you can depend on.To some family may or may not be as important than anything in life.Your family is the life of who you are and also your support system in living.
